Erick Coleman - United LutherieErick Coleman
My interest in guitar repair started early after receiving a used Hagstrom Swede for my birthday in 1982.

I'd take my instrument to the local repair shop for set-up or modifications and would bother the ever-patient repairman to let me hang around while he did the work. Always tinkering, I built my first guitar with my Father soon after.

In the following years, I found myself nosing around the shops of John Greven, Ron Volbrect and David Baas. Inspired by the tools, jigs and techniques used in this trade, lutherie had fully manifested itself in my brain. My priorities at the time however, were as a player first and foremost.

In 2002, after years on the road, I began working with Dan Erlewine and continue to do so today.

At Stewart MacDonald I head up the technical department, work with the R&D team and write the Trade Secrets newsletters along with Dan.

While representing the company I have conducted specialized workshops for the Guild of American Luthiers conventions, Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans events and Purdue University.

Like Gene, I strive to provide stringed instrument repairs of the highest quality, accurate vintage restorations, and top-end custom work.
